Giant Solomon's-seal grows in deciduous forests, woodlands, and woodland edges on rich, loamy soil. If in sun, it prefers moister soil; if partly shaded, it can grow on drier sites. It produces rhizomes but it also spreads readily by seed. Beautiful arching stems are showiest on slopes or ledges.
